There are many different ways to grip a golf club but here we’re going to look at some basic steps to get you started. In working through these keep in the back of your mind the old adage that “The top hand holds while the bottom hand throws”.


Step 1. With the golf head on the ground take the club in your left hand and grip it using only the last three fingers of your hand (not your thumb and forefinger) and the palm of

Step 2. With the club gripped by just three fingers ensure that your hand is near the top of the club and then place your thumb so that it runs straight down the line of the club.


Step 3. Now take hold of the club with the fingers of your right hand. As your right hand grasps the club you’ll notice a series of small vertical grooves in the palm of the right hand where it meets the wrist and these should be overlapped with the matching grooves in the palm of your left hand.
